Zones Landscaping specialists Matt and Boyd Gillespie updated the entire backyard of this Auckland home.
The owners of this modern Auckland home had a pool area that was going underutilised. This was mainly because the wind seemed to directly hit their property. Frustrated with their situation, they called Zones to help them figure out the best solution to their problem.
Zones landscaping specialists Matt and Boyd Gillespie came in and listened to the homeowners’ issues and needs. The homeowners wanted multiple living areas that their growing family could spread out and enjoy.
Matt and Boyd explained that the best way to solve both the issue of getting out of the wind and their goal of creating an enjoyable outdoor area was to develop a relaxing covered backyard!
The bespoke landscape design
Zones provided a bespoke design as well as the installation. Matt and Boyd started by revamping the garden bed and lawn, and laid a new concrete area. They installed a polyester powder-coated louvre, a brand new deck, vice glass balustrading, and a flare fireplace so that the area can be enjoyed all year round!

Matt and Boyd managed the entire project and acted as the homeowners’ single point of contact, dealing with the louvre installers, concrete placers, decking installers, concrete grinders, and sealers, taking the burden and stress off the owners.
The final result
The landscaping project lasted 2 months and the final cost came to $137,000—almost identical to the original estimate provided by Zones.
When asked about the final result, Boyd says “We’re extremely satisfied. My favourite features have to be the beautiful louvre and the fireplace!”
