Wanting to optimise his property’s lawn area, homeowner Aseem contacted his local Zones Landscaping Specialist. Aseem wanted to update the appearance of his outdoor space by changing the existing garden and by creating more of an outdoor living zone. The Zones process allowed him to achieve a personalised result within his budget.

“Our clients asked Zones to help them better utilise their lawn area”, explains the landscaping specialist. “They wanted to create a destination and improve views towards this area from the deck with a stand-out feature. They also wanted to make improvements to the entrance area.”

“We wanted to change the look of our garden, which was predominantly a winter garden, as well as make it more useful for us”, adds Aseem. “We love to sit outside, grab a cup of coffee and entertain guests. Our existing garden was sort of away from the main house and felt disconnected. We wanted to make it more accessible, usable and vibrant.”

After doing some research on landscaping companies, Aseem contacted and met with the landscaping specialist as well as a few other landscaping consultants.

“We saw the recent projects done by Zones and approached them for a consultation, along with other consultancies. The landscaping specialist and his team gave their full attention and came up with nice ideas with an open mind to listen to our feedback.”

Following the initial consultation, Aseem asked the landscaping specialist to support him in developing his project.

Landscape design

“We worked with Aseem and his family to create a concept plan and bring his ideas to life”, explains the landscaping specialist. “The planning stage was important, allowing us to take the time to consider the layout and choose the right materials and colours to complement the home.”

“It was really great working with the landscaping specialist and the team”, says Aseem. “They listened to what we wanted, understood what we were looking to achieve and suggested some great ideas. The landscaping specialist and his team collaborated with us through the entire process, so this project was ours to own and make. For the pergola or when selecting trees, the landscaping specialist helped us save costs yet achieve exactly what we wanted to. We chose the colours and the products and then the landscaping specialist and the team made it happen for us.”

With the design, quote and project timeline approved; the landscaping specialist booked-in manufacturing and deliveries from Pacific Outdoor Solutions, Outdure and Mitre 10. From there, he scheduled in his team to carry out the various elements of the new landscape design.

Hardscaping and softscaping

The existing lawn was removed and replaced with a new Readylawn. Paved steppers were placed along the lawn, connecting the house with the newly established entertainment space: a platform deck sheltered by a freestanding louvre roof structure.

“The louvre is motorised and has rain sensors that close the blades when it starts to rain”, tells the landscaping specialist. “The space also has Ziptrack blinds to keep the wind and rain out, so it can be enjoyed all year-round. For evening entertainment, the louvre was finished off with spotlights and garden uplights to highlight feature trees. There are bollards lights to keep the stepping pathway illuminated at night. The Outdure deck will ensure that maintenance is kept to a minimum with its long-lasting composite timber.”

The new landscape design

A new garden envelopes the entertainment area with palm trees and ground covers, secured with weathered steel garden edging. At the front of the property, an existing Buxus hedge was altered, improving the accessway from the driveway area to the backyard.

“We love it!”, says Aseem of the final result. “This is what we wanted from our garden and we couldn't ask for a better result. I am particularly a fan of how our pergola, Bluetooth garden lights and lawn have turned out. Replacing our lawn, which had too much weed in it, also was a good suggestion from the landscaping specialist and the best decision we made. So yeah, we definitely enjoyed working with him. That's why we engaged him again right after the landscaping project for our rainwater harvesting work!”
