Since taking over their Zones franchise in February 2017, the Barkers have been involved in dozens of projects, from backyard renovations and new builds right through to massive projects where homeowners have completely overhauled their outdoor living spaces.
“There’s definitely a trend for outdoor living and entertaining – it’s the Kiwi way,” Tracey says. “Low-maintenance is also a popular request. Everyone has busy lives so they don’t have time to look after their gardens – but they still want them to look good.”
Tracey believes it’s wise to utilise the skills of a landscaping specialist, rather than attempting to do it all yourself. “The main benefits that come with using a Zones North Shore Landscaping Specialists is time and cost,” she says. “We know from the bottom up what’s going to happen, and we try to offer a fixed quote accordingly. Things can drag on when you try to do it yourself too, whereas we might be able to do the job in just a few weeks while the homeowner sits back and relaxes.”
“I love working with Zones because every day is different, we meet some awesome people, and we love the tradies we work with,” Tracey says. “It’s fun seeing the look on a client’s face when they see their design for the first time and they get really excited. It’s really rewarding doing the whole process for the client.” “At the beginning of the process, we always tell a client that we won’t walk away until they’re happy,” says Tracey. “We’re proud to go the extra mile to make sure every one of our clients are happy, and in the first few months after a project has been completed they can come back to us if anything goes wrong.”
Tracey has more than 20 years of business management experience in the biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry. Tracey received her degree in Medical Laboratory Science from the Auckland University of Technology in 1993, majoring in Clinical Biochemistry, Hematology and Microbiology. She spent several years with LabPlus, Auckland Healthcare, as a Technical Specialist managing the Protein/Immunochemistry Laboratory and Allergy Clinic. Following this, she focused on Executive Business Management after receiving a scholarship to the Mendoza School of Business at Notre Dame University in the US.
Tracey was with two biopharmaceutical companies, firstly Protemix Corporation for 6 years where she served firstly as a Research Scientist and then as Technical Head/Quality Manager of the Reference Laboratory at the University of Auckland; and then 10 years as Chief Operating Officer of CoDa Therapeutics, Inc. based in the NZ office and San Diego. Tracey managed the integration and execution of CoDa’s operating strategy, including advancing all of its manufacturing, preclinical, clinical, and regulatory programs. She had direct responsibility in technical operations, business development and high performance strategic planning efforts for the organization, including overall project planning, scheduling and resource allocation. After the company took all of its operations to the US Tracey and her husband Glen were prompted to make a career change and started a Zones Franchise on Auckland’s North Shore.
Tracey grew up in Titirangi and went to Avondale College. She was a keen netballer and cricket player. In her spare time Tracey enjoys going to the gym, yoga, walking the dog and spending time with her two small grandsons. Now, Tracey and her husband Glen have a rural lifestyle property of 5 acres in Waitoki, Rodney and run both alpacas and sheep.
Tracey has been a keen gardener most of her life and has always had a passion for landscaping. She now gets to help clients visualize and make their dream gardens a reality. Tracey loves the comradery within Zones and the other franchises, and sharing her experiences and jobs with the team. “Zones is a great company to work for and we have some fantastic Directors to lead and guide us. I love meeting new clients and discussing their plans as well as working with our designers to create our clients perfect backyards”.
